Alpaca wool, sourced from alpacas native to the South American Andes, is renowned for its softness, strength, and warmth. There are two main types: Huacaya, which has a crimped, woolly texture, and Suri, known for its smooth, silky locks. Huacayas comprise around 95% of the global alpaca population.
Compared to sheep or goats, alpacas are gentler on the land; their padded feet and efficient grazing habits make them well suited to regenerative agriculture. Alpaca fleece naturally comes in a wide range of colours, from ivory to rich browns and greys, reducing reliance on chemical dyes in textiles. Lacking lanolin, alpaca fibre also requires less water and fewer chemicals during processing.
