Sustainability is no longer a nice-to-have

Across the globe, regulations are coming in that will affect every clothing and textile business.

These regulations focus on sustainability, circularity and traceability, and will impact how your brand designs, sources, produces, markets and sells.

What regulations will affect clothing and textile brands?

From ecodesign requirements to circular principles, digital product passports, reporting and chemicals, your brand needs to prepare to continue selling in markets like the EU, the US, South Korea, Japan and many, many more.

Circular Economy Legislation

The ‘Circular Economy Action Plan’ states that EU will be a circular economy by 2050 and requires brands to comply to continue selling in Europe and other lucrative markets.

Ecodesign requirements

More markets are defining guidelines that require products to be designed to last, be repairable and eventually recycled. Requirements on recycled content and microplastics are also a part of the requirements.

Digital Product Passport

All products sold on the EU market will need to carry a Digital Product Passport. Brands must provide information on the product’s supply chain, materials, possibilities for repair, resell and recycle to be compliant.

CSRD Compliance

Most companies selling in EU will be in scope for CSRD. CSRD requires these companies to be responsible for traceability and transparency throughout their entire value chains.

Running a brand is hard. Sustainability doesn’t have to be.

Bergstrand Consultancy, leaders in fashion and textile sustainability, can simplify the work.

Our experts help you focus on making what your customers love, in a way that reduces the impact on the planet and minimises the burden on your bottom line.

What happens to brands that don’t follow regulations?

Brands that do not comply with regulations can face the following challenges.

Ban on sales

Brands failing to meet due diligence, traceability, toxicity, and circularity requirements may have to recall products and could face bans on sales in territories with strict regulations, such as the EU, USA and Japan. until compliance is achieved.

Heavy fines

Non-compliance could result in fines of up to 4% of a company's annual revenue in EU Member States. Paying a compensation to affected parties or customers might even be required by companies.

Reduced investor confidence

Fines and legal troubles from operational issues can damage a company’s financial stability, reputation, and market share. Limited market access and poor sustainability practices will make the company less attractive to stakeholders.

Typography

Set the base styles for all headings and text elements across your site.

To set the styles for root HTML tags, open the selector dropdown for each element type and select the corresponding HTML tag option.

Select the base HTML tag from the selector menu options.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

Rich text element

Styling the rich text element works a bit differently than other elements. While there's no base tag for rich text elements, you can customize base tags for elements within a rich text element as long as the parent rich text element has a class.

Global colors

You can also create global color swatches for your site to keep recurring colors consistent across your site.

For example, you might use the same "neutral gray" on element text, backgrounds, and borders — creating a global swatch for that gray allows you to change it once and update every instance where that swatch is applied throughout your site.

Links and buttons

You can also create a standard set of classes and combo classes for your site's link and button elements.
